How much does it cost to hire a recruiter?

Dear Jenny,

My company is considering investing in a recruiter, but we are wondering what we can expect to pay. What are your rates?

Thanks,

Curious Cat

Dear Curious Cat

I can’t speak for every placement or recruitment firm out there. But, I can tell you exactly what it costs to work with Placed, LLC. This should be a good starting point for costing, although other companies may be higher or lower based on a variety of factors – the size of a recruitment firm, what they include in their services, if they charge a percentage or a flat fee, etc.

We have three different service offerings to include direct placement services, flexible staffing services, and on-demand recruiting services, and they’re all priced differently.

DIRECT PLACEMENT SERVICES

Let’s start with direct placement services. The fee for direct placement services is 20%. That fee is 20% of the newly hired employee’s first-year annual salary. Let me tell you what you get for that fee.

  • We work for free until we find you the exact right hire that meets your needs.
  • We advertise on multiple platforms.
  • We use our own recruiting tools and job boards.
  • We use our own applicant tracking system and we share the pipeline of candidates that we find for you.
  • We negotiate salaries.
  • We help them understand benefits, your company, culture, arrange for interviews and drug tests, and background checks.

When you use a recruitment service, you actually save time and money. What would it cost you to have to take the time to do all of those things? And what does it cost you to have a vacancy on your team? It’s very costly.

It’s also really important to note that we never charge any candidate for our services.

FLEXIBLE STAFFING SERVICES

Next, let’s talk about flexible staffing services. This is a great option for a couple of reasons. Let’s say you have a project and you don’t have an expert on the team to help you complete that project. This person will come in for the project duration and then move on once the project is complete.

Second, let’s say you have a new project for all of your employees, and you want them to be able to dig into the new fun technology, but you need to backfill those positions, so your lights can stay on in the company. This is a great opportunity to utilize flexible staffing services.

Lastly, let’s say you’re not really sure if you want to make a hire or not, and you want to kind of try it out or the candidate wants to try your company out. It’s a great try-and-buy situation, or, as I like to call it, dating before marriage.

Now, what does flexible staffing cost? It’s a little bit difficult to give you an exact price. Let’s say you’re hiring a help desk person. The cost could be $40 an hour. Let’s say you need a software developer that could be $85 an hour. Let’s say you need an AI expert. Well, gosh, that could be $120 or $150 an hour.

It really depends on the unique needs of your company.

One thing it’s worth noting is we really respect the employees that we hire as our consultants that work on assignments for you. We offer them medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, HSA accounts, paid time off, and holiday pay. We do this because we want to ensure continuity on your project, this way our consultants aren’t looking for their next gig because they’re fully taken care of. We know that if we take care of them, they’re going to take care of you. And we all win.

That’s flexible staffing services.

ON-DEMAND RECRUITING

The last service I’d like to talk to you about is on-demand recruiting services. This is an hourly recruiting service. This is like having a team of your own personal hiring managers on your staff.

We’ll come in with a team of recruiters and work for you on an hourly basis. We will advertise all of your jobs. Use our own recruiting tools and platforms. We will reach into our own networks, provide you with lists of candidates and pipeline resources for your review.

Then, we interview candidates, screen them technically and professionally arrange interviews, background checks, and drug tests. Most positions take between 60 and 80 hours to fill. Our fee for this service is $150 an hour. Remember, you get a team dedicated to your company. This is a great option for a company that needs to fill multiple positions.

And that’s it! Those are the services and the associated costs. I really look forward to chatting with you and seeing which option is the best for you. Let’s get those positions filled with the best candidates out there!

Sincerely,
Jenny
